‘Chance to Dance’ returns to Sheffield City Centre for the 9th year on Saturday 13 June.

A wide range of dances will be performed including Jive, Ceroc, Salsa, and Tango, Sequence, Belly, Hip Hop, Rocknroll, Morris and Traditional Clog. Dances from Latin America, Africa and the Middle East will also give it an international flavour. Members of the public are invited to join in and have a go themselves.

Performances will take place every half an hour from 11.15 to 4.15 on Fargate, Barker’s Pool, the Peace Gardens, Winter Garden and, new for 2009, Leopold Square and the Upper Chapel forecourt (in Norfolk Street).

Cllr Sylvia Dunkley, Cabinet member for Culture, Leisure and Streetscene, said: “The variety of dances that are being performed as part of Chance to Dance is fantastic! There will be something for everyone, with a great mix of styles and cultures throughout the day.”

The grand finale of the event will be a Mass Salsa dance at 4:15 in the Peace Gardens. Nisha Lall of Aim to Dance will lead the proceedings – and everyone will have a chance to take part.

Ann-Marie Duffy of Ask Developments (owners of Leopold Square) and sponsors of Chance to Dance said: " On behalf of all the tenants in Leopold Square, we're delighted to be sponsoring Chance to Dance and to welcome it to one of the city centre's newest open spaces - the event will add a real holiday atmosphere to what is already an exciting city centre leisure destination."

The Lord Mayor Cllr Arthur Dunworth will open the proceedings at 11:15am in Fargate, joined by the Sheffield City Giants. BBC Radio Sheffield presenters Rony Robinson, Kate Linderholm and Trisha Cooper will host the event.
